You see the implied pathway in that photo above? You see the orange tread on one curb and the orange tread on the other curb? Until this morning, you could not walk from the nearer one to the farther one. There were chain-link fences blocking off the far sidewalk, presumably to let the grass grow back along the sidewalk. You couldn't walk on that path to the right of that tree, either, into the park.

But as of this morning, that section of chain-link fence had come down!

It's hard to explain how exciting this is. If you had to walk this path to work every day, like I do, you'd understand.

This afternoon, walking to lunch, I noticed workers setting up some new kind of fence, much shorter, apparently modular. I was in a hurry or I would have stopped and asked where this new low fence will go, but presumably it will go around some of the not-quite-ready-to-be-trampled-on landscape.
