Dean Wareham

Ex–Luna leader Dean Wareham once covered a French song (Serge Gainsbourg’s "Bonnie and Clyde") with a French singer (Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier) that appeared in a French film (Olivier Assayas’s Irma Vep). Then he and wife Britta Phillips landed the ultimate art-pop coup when they scored Andy Warhol's Screen Tests. They’re two highlights among many: Between his time in Galaxie 500 and the release of his Jim James–produced solo debut, Wareham acted in a film (Frances Ha) and wrote a memoir (Black Postcards). Earlier this year, he also gave a vanity-free performance as an Ambien-addled version of himself in Hospitality's "Going Out" video, peeling away his veneer of sophistication in one fell swoop—a good look on a guy who's sometimes seemed too cool for school.
