Unlike yesterday, today's subject line is not a joke. It is from Radar.com:

Stripped of her crown, Prejean sued the Miss California USA pageant but reportedly settled after the sex tape surfaced. She called the sex tape the biggest mistake of her life.

Now a RadarOnline.com investigation has uncovered that there are SEVEN more “biggest mistakes” of her life — all of them solo performances, just like the one sex tape that the religious beauty queen has admitted to. And there are 30 photos of Carrie, most topless, some showing everything, and most taken by Carrie using her reflection in a mirror.

On one tape Carrie is wearing just a flowing white blouse as she touches her own body in an alluring manner. Carrie can be heard moaning on a few of the tapes.

Gold-star question from Paul Constant: "Are we allowed to refer to her as a porn star yet?"

Yes. Yes, we are.

Also: Carrie Prejean's book tour has been cancelled.

Tukwila Police recently shot a man at an apartment complex near Southcenter. From seattlepi.com:

Seattle Police responded to Tukwila after receiving a tip that the man was connected to the fatal shooting Halloween Night of Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton, according to a police source familiar with the investigation. SWAT members were among those responding.

According to Stranger books intern Corey Kahler, who was listening to police radio, the suspect was shot after drawing a weapon, after multiple squad cars and SWAT arrived. The suspect <del>is alive and</del> has been taken from the scene.

His condition has not been officially released, seattlepi.com reports.

At least one man was cuffed and laying face down on the sidewalk. An officer at the scene said "We had someone fighting with the police."

Calls have been placed with SPD media relations. While the initial police response was intense, there are no indications that this incident has any ties to the shooting of officer Brenton.

UPDATE: SPD spokesman Officer Mark Jamieson believes this incident is unrelated to the investigation of the murder of Officer Timothy Brenton. Referring to the Friday arrest of Christopher Monfort, Jamieson says police are fairly confident that they have the person reposnible in custody.

This November, as voters head to the ballot booth that is their envelopes, they should know their world has gone from clear derivations (Italian, Proto Indo European) to murky ("perhaps Celtic") and from expansive (balloons, growth) to intimate ("wrap up").

PI:

Police were called to the scene of a shooting in the 800 block of 32nd Avenue South about 8:30 p.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene and no other details were available on his condition. The suspect fled to a house, which was surrounded by police.

UPDATE: Central District News is all over it:

[T]he victim had been shot in the head by another man armed with an AK-47... There's a huge police response, including heavily armed SWAT teams. Traffic and pedestrian access has been shut down for several blocks around the crime scene and the site of the standoff.

The suspect is described as an 18 year old white male, 6' tall, muscular build, blonde hair, wearing a black tank top and shorts. He's possibly associated with two other older black males, whose whereabouts are currently unknown...

UPDATE 2: According to two teenagers (acquaintances of the victim) at the scene at Harborview, the victim's family came out and told everyone that the victim was dead. This is unconfirmed information. The East Precinct of the Seattle Police Department has no information, according to someone reached just now on the after-hours line.

Better Business Bureau warns that...the currently inflated prices for many items will drop over time.... by the morning following his death almost 20,000 Michael Jackson-related items and memorabilia were for sale on the auction Web site. Items included autographs, gloves, posters, newspapers and even a Cheeto which supposedly predicted the death of the pop star.

...Because the value of collectibles is largely dependent on how rare an item is, mass-produced commemorative items are not likely to appreciate in value.

Just got word that Gov. Christine Gregoire has vetoed the portion of Senate Bill 5433 that would have given King County Metro the ability to put a $20 car tab fee on the ballot to help fill its estimated $100 million funding shortfall. The fee for transit, if approved by King County voters, would have provided between $25 and $30 million a year for additional bus service.

"At best, this legislation was a partial fix, and now we're going to be coming back next year with a 'no more Mr. Nice Guy' attitude about transit service," says Ron Johnson, executive director of the Transportation Choices Coalition. "We need to make transit as high of a priority as roads in the state legislature."

Gregoire did not say why she was vetoing the funding option in her public statement this morning, nor has the partial veto showed up yet on the governor's bill action page.

King County council chair Dow Constantine said this morning that he was "very disappointed" with the governor's decision. "It's going to exacerbate the significant problems we have with transit funding and make more difficult the choices we have to make." Although a Metro audit found an additional $105 million in the agency's fleet replacement fund to pay for service in the coming year, that's only a onetime windfall; in the longer term, Constantine says, Metro will need a more stable funding source, such as the motor vehicle excise tax, to maintain service. I'm still playing phone tag with council member Larry Phillips, who pushed for the audit (and who, like Constantine, is running for King County Executive). Carolyn Duncan, a spokeswoman for the executive's office, says the loss of the license tab fee will mean cuts either in "quantity or quality"—that is, either reduced spending on "things like shelters, cleaning buses, or security or a reduction in bus hours."

This just in to our e-mail:

Harborview has its first Swine Flu patient. The patient presented at the Emergency Room earlier today and was admitted to the hospital about an hour ago.

There hasn't been a general announcement to staff about the H1N1 patient, but UW Medicine employees have been sent an alert with the usual directives: wash hands frequently, stay home if sick, and have two weeks of food on hand in case there's a quarantine.

I'm a Harborview employee, and while I'm sure this information will be released to the public in a few hours, I'd appreciate it if you just referred to me as "K."

This isn't confirmed. The P.I. points out:

"Like other states, Washington does not yet have the capacity to identify the swine flu being investigated. But labs here have been able to narrow down the subtype of flu samples collected, which have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation"

The World Health Organization has just raised the flu threat level from phase 4 to phase 5, indicating a pandemic is "imminent."

"Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.

The World Health Organization has raised its global pandemic alert level to Level 4, meaning that the virus can easily transmit between people and cause "community-level outbreaks." According to WHO, "The ability to cause sustained disease outbreaks in a community marks a significant upwards shift in the risk for a pandemic ... but does not necessarily mean that a pandemic is a forgone conclusion."
The corner of 42nd and University is blocked off right now after a shooting. A police spokesperson told a group of reporters about 10 minutes ago—The Stranger's Anthony Hecht happened to be out there—that the victim in the shooting is a white male who was with some friends about an hour ago and got shot in the side of the face. The suspect is possibly a black male in face makeup. There's some uncertainty about this, but according to information circulating at the scene, there was apparently an altercation between the shooting victim's group of friends and another group in Juggalo-style face paint.

The victim was taken to Harborview. The fire department says it's serious but not life-threatening. The current thinking is that this was a street-kid thing, rather than a gang thing.

We will keep following this.
