This is my opportunity to publicly state "Regina I have disagreed with you constantly in the past but I have always respected your opinion". We are losing someone who has no editors who would dare limit her poetic musings. I am sad to loose your voice at the PI. Please Blog - we need your voice.

This may be my favorite Slog post of all time, even if the event that brought it about breaks my heart. One of the great things about the P-I is that it could accommodate a personality as brilliant, original, and fiercely independent as Regina. And as far as her time with the paper goes (and I've been reading it since grade school) she saved the best for last. Now, at the height of her career, it's a shame that she might be forced by the P-I's likely closure to abandon the stage. It upsets me that our city's leaders can rally to keep mediocre professional sports teams in Seattle and build them palatial stadiums at taxpayer expense but just shrug at the thought of its oldest newspaper shutting down and its most valuable writer and cultural asset being turned out on the street.

      Karma is a bitch.

I'm sad for everyone at the P-I--even Regina. However, this is an interesting development for a woman who wrote such a venomous post about Farr's departure.

Hackett's assessment of Farr was not fearless or brave. It was mean and it made her look small.
The interesting thing about all of this is how reporters & writers -- previously required to stay on their side of the curtain and ignore all of the finances of publishing -- are suddenly being forced to think about where the money comes from and how to find more of it to do what they believe in.

It could go badly (newswriting, once a "real" profession, goes to something only for those with spare funds from elsewhere) or really well (entrepreneurial freed from the constraints of currently failing newspaper frameworks). I hope that for talents like Regina it is the latter.

Great post, Jen. I'm excited to see Regina's new blog. (Usage note, though: I used to use sanguine to mean relaxed and confident, but learned that it's literally fulla blood: Merriam Webster online has it as "marked by sturdiness, high color, and cheerfulness." That's Regina.)

I was a little worried as well as to what would become of "Art to Go," Regina's website. It is one of half a dozen art blogs that I follow along with your posts & articles here. I will say, I think that the two of you agree more times than you realize. But the great thing is that when you don't agree, it does not de-evolve into petty snipping. I am very glad that she will push on and continue to be a voice on art in the region. I think we need that.

The loss of the PI still makes me sad though.
