      <![CDATA[Yes, but originally (and I grew up on the OED, not the M-W) it was a wheelbarrow because you used it to move large "mounds of earth and stone", hence the linkage.<br />

<br />
A barrow full of monkeys would be an ancient dirt and rock mound covered in monkeys.<br />
<br />
