It seems to me (and I'm a huge supporter, going to the Inauguration, yadda yadda) that Obama doesn't mind using his kids in his own way and I'm somewhat bothered by the double standard.

Yes, because having a professional photographer follow them around wouldn't call out for criticism.

I think these photos are meant to be inviting and a peek into their lives, and less a chronicle of their day-to-day. I mean, it's their first day of school. That's a big event in every home.
