Dear President Conant:

First off, I grew up on Campbell's soup - in fact, dinner tonight was grilled cheese sandwiches and the best tomato soup ever known to mankind - Campbell's of course. Now, after that great meal I'm taking a second to write to thank you not only for your great product line, but for supporting all types of families, regardless of how they're defined.

I'm referring to the recent Swanson broth advertisement in The Advocate magazine. I appreciated seeing that ad and I applaud your company for realizing that such advertising that targets a wide-spectrum of people not only makes good business sense, it is appreciated and worth thanking you for.

I think it's important, in the face of a potential backlash from groups such as the American Family Association, that you know that I and my family and friends support your company (and I'm sure millions of other American's feel the same way). I'll buy extra Swanson broth (and lots of other great Campbell's products) to help make my point.

I love it how you good conservatives jump at the chance to attack Campbells because they are simply showing a gay family in their advertising. How self-righteous of you. But should I really be alarmed or offended by a gay family featured in a[n] advertisement in an GAY magazine?! I thought you conservatives (read "innocent" white xenophobic, ethnocentric, superstitious, free-market-loving, deregulation-favoring, fundamentalist, homophobic, Jesus-fu@#ing, Palin-aggrandizing, education-fearing, science-dodging, bible-thumping LEMMINGS) were so supportive of big corporations?

Once this recession kicks into high gear, all of your pet conservative causes such as protecting the "sanctity" marriage (50% divorce rates and Britney Spears in Vegas, anyone?), militancy with "Merry Christmas" over "Happy Holidays" (hello, it is meant to be inclusive to you AND others, not threatening), etc. will just be a distant memory. The US is going to be going through some real changes and you cry-babies are going to be "right" in the dust. If all you can contribute is your contemptibly unimportant remarks over a Busch© Light and your uneducated attitudes then the country has no use for you. Bon débarras!

Dear Sir, I recently sent a pre-written email with AFR requesting that Campbell's not take side with the culture war on same-sex marriage. Today, as I was reading some reports about how AFR was in the wrong for sending the letters, I was shocked at the hatred that was shown toward anyone that did not agree with Campbell's for advertising in the Advocate. Is this the type of people ( homosexual or straight) that your company wants to represent? As far as I have seen AFR did not "bash" campbell's for doing this, they just asked that people that agree with them to show their support. I do not know what position you personally take on same-sex marriage, but I ask again, that future ads do not promote such a "hot" issue, one that will until the end of time draw attention from both sides and will do nothing to increase or decrease your revenue. I know that as we boycott Campbell's, others will increase their volume just to counteract, so there is no benefit to your company.

I would like to say thank you to the Campbell Soup Company for being an inclusive and responsible company by placing ads geared to and representing gays, lesbians and their families. I personally apologize for American Family Association's assumption that your products were only to be consumed by and marketed toward heterosexual Christian families.

Kind of makes you wonder how they even came across your ads in two issues of The Advocate..? Seems like your campaign is working. Keep up the good work!

I whole-heartedly thank the Campbell Soup Company for actively representing families such as mine in your ad in "The Advocate." I use your products often and, (because of these ads) now exclusively for my soup and broth needs.

I will await word from American Family Association for your response, their outrage is a good indication to me that you are doing something right.

The best product that Campbells make is called Tim Tams (yes the name is silly but they are GREAT). They are available in the USA and I would recommend that you find them and eat a shitload of them.

Bite diagonally opposite corners off and then use the Tim Tam as a straw to suck hot chocolate or coffee through. You will thank me.

It is a good thing to support companies who are not afraid of us. and it is even better when you can eat truckloads of Tim Tams as well while you are supporting such a company.
