Thanks for the heads up on the great sale. After having not played 2fort[4/5] since around 2000 when it was on its last legs as a mod for Quake, I was very pleased to see that the old base remained more or less the same. I'll miss that elevator in the "southwest" corner of the base (if we read the map where the enemy is to the north) but I reckon I could still whip some ass. Someone invite me to a game... or whatever it is that Steam does.

Awesome. I spent about an hour last night getting myself killed repeatedly. I'll try out the medic thing, because I can't stay alive for more than a minute for crying out loud. I'd post my username, but I haven't figured out how to change it from my actual name yet.

I listened to people call me by my real name for an hour over the voice-enabled chat. It's entertaining to hear random people talk about how you're obviously terrible at shooter games. I couldn't even figure out the objectives. I'll get better and try out the server recommended above.

TF2 is amazing. I recommend starting with the 2fort map. It's small and fairly easy to understand in general but rewards many hours of play.

Like most online games, you'll probably run into some lame people. Groups run their own servers and usually have moderators and modifications to help them keep it fun. Your experience will depend a lot on how many mods are on at a time, and how zealous they are about eliminating cheaters and other irritating people. Team Interrobang runs a really good server at:
Play as medic first, then you can watch good players and still feel like you are helping.

I love Love LOVE Team Fortress 2. I'm all about getting steam friends and playing with them. (It's an achievement or two, at least!) Left4Dead is fun too, but it doesn't have as much replay value as TF2.

I'm patr0ck on steam.

A teacher in Texas recently confiscated Linux OS discs that a kid was passing out in class. She also sent a nastygram to HeliOS, the nonprofit that built and donated the Linux-loaded computer.
This is a world where Windows runs on virtually every computer and putting on a carnival show for an operating system is not helping these children at all. I am sure if you contacted Microsoft, they would be more than happy to supply you with copies of an older verison of Windows and that way, your computers would actually be of service to those receiving them..."
