Also, the DJs were great, the sound system was appropriately scrappy (dude, the whole place was stacked to the ceiling with burlap sacks of coffee; the DJ's laptop sat atop just such a sack), and it was plenty loud on the dance floor.

As far as being arty and beautiful, why, you can be that too, in 3 easy steps:

1) Stop devoting energy into being snarky and cynical.

2) Turn it inward and use it to change things you don't like about yourself.

3) Start radiating happiness and (humble) satisfaction.

OK, so it's not always easy. But the good news is it's not easy for anyone. It takes hard work and motivation to become genuinely interesting, and it's a lifelong process you never get to give up on.
