i was put through this same bullshit several times in the early 90s when mortgage companies kept selling themselves to each other. U.S. Bancorp to Mellon to Chase to whatever came after that - and each time, the 'extended transition period' was us, trying to keep the boat from sinking immediately when the new, lesser-paid staff of the overtaking bank took our jobs.

to this day i have no idea why i stuck around for the 'transition periods', other than the train-wreck factor (can't look away!), but my advice to the WaMu crowd would be to stay on and be as little help as possible. oh, and office supplies! stock up now on your office supplies.
