Endorsement meetings count because the people who participate in them (more than 200 in the 34th, BTW) are the ones who bang their neighbors' doors to get out the vote.

What's more, they are getting out the vote for the endorsed candidates and not for the others. If you don't think this is true, or that it is effective, why don't you call up Mayor Mark Sidran and ask him?
