"Which country is that?" I ask.

"Romania" He answers.

I file that away, then I'm sitting in Cafe Solstice years later and I meet this totally hot Romanian chick, and I ask her "Is it true that Vlad the Impaler is really considered a national hero back home?"

She says "Oh yes. He saved our country, and all of Christendom, from the Turks. He's both a Romanian national hero, and a Christian hero, that's why we hate it when he's portrayed as a monster."

One thing she said was particularly offensive to the locals was the Goth kids who come to say satanic angsty goth prayers at his memorial. They're like "He's a Christian Hero you fuckin assholes!"

The last are my words not hers. But they do reflect the feelings as she described them.

I especially liked all the plaques from all the different states. Once you get to the top, it's kind of a let-down; like you said, a small, cramped space with only a mediocre view.
