Shit, Christie does it again, putting the people of New Jersey over the politics of the Republican Party. At this rate, I'm going to have to start respecting the guy. I hate this. Damn. He may have to switch parties when the Republicans excommunicate him.

Well, Christie is pressured as much by the GOP as he is by the catholic church. Neither one likes us, so it seems unlikely that he will support GLBT civil rights, unless the next pope is RuPaul.

They're not worried about general elections; they are worried about getting a primary opponent crazier than they are pretending to be.

Christie is a smart guy. He saw the writing on the wall in the run up to this election and strategically distanced himself from the sinking ship that was the Romney Candidacy. He understands that doubling down on failed strategies won't win a Republican the White House again in his lifetime, hence the gradual but deliberate left-turn.

I wonder what would happen if Christie were abandoned by the GOP. It seems unlikely, given his popularity. If it did happen, I wonder if it would play out the way Charlie Christ's political career has unfolded so far. Would Christie join the Democrats? Without GOP funding, he might have to if he wants to stay in office. Would he recant his current position on Equal Marriage if the Democrats made that a requirement to join their ranks?

If this scenario were to occur, it would undoubtedly be a product of the Tea Party movement. While it would work against the GOP's best interests, the Tea Party has shown propensity for damaging Republican electoral success. Unlikely though it is, it does seem possible.

Steve Schmidt was on MSNBC today talking about how CPAC was full of extremist in the party, and how it didn't matter that Christie was not invited. He did not of course bother to mention that McCain had to go to CPAC in 2008 to convince folks he wasn't just a RHINO and it was ok to vote for him. I'm at a point where I just don't see Christie being able to get the nomination unless the party does a massive change by 2016.
