Think about it if you can, my symbolic "progressive" children. Given that virtually any gun is worth more than this buyback will pay, what kind of person do you think will show up? Will it be a solid citizen who wants a gift card, or one of Dave Meinert's sloppy drunks, or an addict, or a burglar with a bunch of stolen iron and a rather insistent and urgent desire for cash?

Hanauer, is your $25,000 going for gift cards, or will it be broken down into dead presidents to hand to the various lizards who will slither out of the woodwork? And you, Meinert, where is your $500 going to end up?

As for the buyback, hey if the corporate guys want to burn $100 bills on the street corner, fine. It'll be interesting to see how many of the usual suspects really want Amazon gift cards, but we'll find out. In any case, in a city with anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 privately owned guns, I'm sure buying back a few hundred -- most of which don't work anyway -- will make a big difference.

Are you tossing in your own money?

$100 for the 30 minutes it takes to build a zip gun out of $10 in hardware, pretty good deal. I also might turn in a pistol I have with a cracked frame after I strip it of parts.

Then I can offer two gift cards for their glock.

And the 200 for an assault rifle is ludicrous, they are going for around $2000 right now dues to the threat of a ban. I might show up with cash in hand to save one from the smelter.

That sad thing is that buybacks are great places for gang members to dispose of murder guns, no questions axed.

Why would you go build a zip gun just because somebody offered you below market value for the real gun you have? You know the point here is for people who'd rather have $100 than a gun, and who don't want to go to a lot of effort, like shopping the gun around for a good price.

Somebody who'd build a zip gun is somebody who wants a gun. Somebody too lazy to sell their gun at a good price is too lazy to build a zip gun.
