Also the contrast between Bernard and Rose and our heroes running around shooting at each other mirrored the conflict between Jacob and Smokey/Notlocke/enemy guy. Smokey doesn't want conflict and death, but jacob thinks progress is important despite the pain it causes. Or something.

Is what Jacob talking about in the beginning of last night's episode the flashbacks? All of our characters got to sort out their pasts via conflicts on the Island. Is that the 'progress' Jacob was talking about?

This thread was actually informative. And honestly, I kind of like the idea of egyptian gods/old adversaries (Jacob and Beardy/not-Locke) fighting a long-war/conflict about human nature (or something). Jacob clearly keeps trying some kind of experiment over and over hoping to get different results, and not-Locke/Beardy seems to think it's pointless. That's interesting.

Frankly, I like this type of plot better than the idea they're aliens, or that there's just random events not connecting all this - although I'm sensing Stargate-esque qualities.

Frankly, I also like the idea that Ben's not a good guy (he's manipulated by not-Locke) better than finding out he's actually "good" (after all he's done). Although of course there are still lots of questions. Are all the "others" people that Jacob/Beardy have been manipulating/controlling once they reach the island? And why? And why did Jacob meet all the lostaways at various points in their lives? To get them onto the plane somehow?

And is the Dharma initiative and Hanso and so on actually powerful? Or just some yahoos that stumbled on the island and mucked some stuff up.

I thought this episode was quite good. Hope the final season is at least satisfying. Doesn't have to wrap it up in a nice little package, but leaving everything unanswered just to keep things open for future movies or whatever, or pulling a "it's all a dream" BS would kill things.

This episode could've been an hour long and been much better. This one pretty much had much of the cast running around doing nothing for much of it.

LOVE Jacob. Whatever he is, he's interesting, and I like it. I actually think Richard is the "Anti-Jacob" more than "Beardy" is. He seems to have thwarted Ben having a relationship with Jacob all this time for a reason. He tried to hand-pick Locke for the Island, and encouraged him to be leader, but is puzzled and hesitant about Locke meeting Jacob. Now, he seems determined to help the new crash survivors with whatever it is they're doing.

I can't wait for Season 6. This show has cornered the market on making viewers crazy with unanswered questions. I wouldn't expect it to stop now. :)

The statue is of Set, with an ankh behind it - just because he's burned doesn't mean Jacob is "gone". Read some Egyptian source material.

Either way, I still stand by the statue being Taweret. Set (Seth) was depecited as a mythical like creature that has yet to correspond with a known animal. The statue in Lost has more of the hippo like qualites that Taweret has. Plus the ears.

1. The pictures just line up more to me from known images and statues. Plus, look at the "cloth" illana found in the Cabin.

2. The whole fertility aspect of Taweret lines up with the islands mythos alot more.
