The rest of us feel nothing but revulsion and disgust for you - the exact same feelings your kids and grandkids have in store for you when they find out what side of history you were on.

This is just the most gorgeous story. I'm totally in love with every single part of it. How incredible to be witnessing living breathing civil rights history in the making. How extraordinarily wrong, nasty, and tiny-minded the bigots are/always were. To think THIS is what they were incensed by? People in love - for decades in some cases - pining to do something as beautiful and uncontroversial and old fucking fashioned as tie the frickin knot?

The sincerest of heartfelt congrats to all of the couples. I don't believe in God, but if there was one, he'd absolutely be smiling down on all of you right now.

For some of these fine people, this is the warm up. The big show is a whole bunch of awesome weddings, including an awesome parade of very public ceremonies at City Hall on Sunday. It struck me, as similar occasions proceeded in San Francisco and Boston, that part of the haters' problem is that such folks are doing something better than the by-invitation-only events that so many weddings have become. The fact that marriage is a public event is brought back to our attention. Public notice is still given, but it is as if the whole thing is being done in a closet. Hundreds of years ago, European states started to outlaw secret marriages because they undermined civil society, but more pointedly marriage is a public fact exactly because the broader society has a real interest in building up the relationships of the people getting married, and not mistaking them for people who are not married.

This is so wonderful, I can't stop smiling. You can see the love radiating from each couple. So glad that so many loving couples can finally be afforded full rights (though we still have to defeat DOMA) and be recognized.

I wonder how many couples will decide on December or January weddings, and if that in turn will make this time of year a big anniversary season (in Seattle & WA state) - much like June is with the greeting card industry.
