We also know that the republicans do not care about the fate of the country, so they will gladly let the austerity bomb detonate, since that is essentially what they want anyway. They have proven that they care much more about being "right" and helping the wealthy, rather than helping 98% of the nation.

The choice left for democrats is indeed a shit sandwich, and we all have to take a bite, but if we do not, it is just putting off that sandwich for a big old foot-long sub later.
