Diana Szeinblum | Alaska

Former Pina Bausch dancer and student Diana Szeinblum makes her Seattle debut with Alaska, a sensual and fierce dance theater performance. The Buenos Aires choreographer uses the skills of her outstanding 4 member company and a style reminiscent of OtB alumni such as Crystal Pite to create a beautiful spectacle that undulates between uneasy stillness and violent frenzy.

DIRECTOR'S CHOICE

For his DIRECTOR’S CHOICE mixed-bill, PNB honcho Peter Boal compiled a selection of premieres and returning hits for a kaleidoscopic view of the Company’s talents. A major arrival at PNB, Petite Mort cemented Jiri Kylian’s reputation as one of the most inventive and daring choreographers in the world. Mopey’s 15-minute solo blitzkrieg, featuring music by Bach and The Cramps, had audiences leaping from their seats at its debut and has developed a cult following. A newly commissioned work by Val Caniparoli set to Alexander Glazunov's The Seasonsmakes its world premiere, and the program is topped off by the return of Jerome Robbins’ West Side Story Suite.

35 Shots of Rum

In this pleasantly captivating and emotionally intelligent film, Claire Denis yet again proves her finesse with dramatic intimacy and expressive vibrancy. The elegantly sketched narrative delves into the evolving relationship between Jo (Mati Diop), a Parisian university student, and her train engineer father, Lionel (Alex Descas). Rather than make her characters easily readable, Denis chooses a more subtle approach by filling in the details ever so discreetly, breathing life and depth into the father-daughter duo while making them tangibly relatable. Other characters are equally complex and intriguing in this riveting study of human relationships.

Baguette Box

I work up in pill hill and I happily make the jaunt down to them during my lunch break. I have had all the porks sandwiches, the tuna nicoise, the braised tofu, the drunken chicken...all delishous-ness. Besides the wiches, they have a killer roasted beet side dish and great salads, too. The current crew are all awesome, very personable and fast. Micheal, the blond fella is very cool. :-) Posted by owlsrcute on May 29, 2009 at 5:19 PM
