What Will It Be, Harrell? Your Donors’ Profits or the Health of the One World We Have?

Even after two years of the City sweating it out with big business in a two-year "stakeholdering" process, Mayor Harrell is still slow-rolling climate action as smoke chokes Seattle residents. GABI GONZALEZ-YOXTHEIMER

Love this [noun]-justice fad, so amusing.

Love this trying-not-to-die-in-Climate-Change-catastrophes fad, so amusing

but he pushed the bums out of my eyesight! does that not count for anything?

@5, so you're content to not have the problem solved, but at least you don't have to look at it? I appreciate the honesty I guess.

From firstā€¦

ā€œAfter a haze of wildfire smokeā€¦ā€

None of which emanated from anywhere in Seattle, let alone from any large buildings therein. Nor is there any evidence in this post linking the source of this smoke to anyone or anything in Seattle. So whatā€™s the point of mentioning it here?

ā€¦ to lastā€¦

ā€œā€¦Harrell ran on acting as climate justice champion. Climate justice advocates are waiting for him to prove it.ā€

He also ran on sweeping encampments. When is the Stranger going to post an article quoting Seattleā€™s citizens demanding more & faster sweeps?

@8 if only obtusity could provide shelter we'd be set

11

@10 allowing vagrants free run isnā€™t the solution either

I thought Insleeā€™s massive gas tax was going to solve all our climate problems? I always love how various groups claim these things will only impace business as wellā€¦like that gas tax, the soda tax and on and on

I have to laugh every time The Stranger discovers (for the millionth time) that Seattle and its government loves rich people.

It's been that way ever since the Denny Party landed at Alki.

Like @11 pointed out, the carbon pollution tax was passed onto consumers - why do supporters think fees from BEPS would be any different (I wish that wasnā€™t the case but we all know it will happen).

Hannah liked to poopoo congestion pricing (for driving into the core of the city) as it is viewed as regressive (regardless that it would most likely make a bigger climate impact than BEPS). Yet BEPS (like the carbon tax) is also regressive - why no concern for the impacts on our less fortunate residents (as those fees would most likely lead to higher rents).

I know asking for consistency is a tall order but I would hope we could at least see some modicum of uniformity on important issues like taxation and climate policy.

The problem is all the smoky BBQ places opening up.

Obviously we need to fix that.

Oh, and ban private cars. They can go park in the suburbs and take transit or e-bike in like everyone else.

Harrell refused the mayor's desk when it was literally handed to him for free, but then a few short years later he's gunning for it.

Maybe he was right the first time.
