Chimerica Today: Seattle and Shanghai

Accord to Wikipedia, Seattle's gross domestic product (GDP—this "refers to the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period"), $235 billion...

Seattle

...is roughly the same as (or slightly larger than) Shanghai's:
Shanghai

  • Shanghai

That should put things in perspective. Also, the combined GDP of Portland and Vancouver does not match Seattle's. Again, that should put things in perspective.

And to be fair, Seattle is not in the top 10 of US cities.

But they have a 21st century monorail in Shanghai, plus a bank is still named after them (HSBC).
