McGinn Camp's Reaction

Posted by Dominic Holden on Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 10:03 PM

Mike McGinn, who could be Seattle's next mayor, is curled up 'round the fire with his family and black labrador, and couldn't be reached. Campaign spokesman Aaron Pickus reacts to the latest results, which put McGinn 2,400 votes in the lead. "It’s a big jump, and we feel pretty good," Pickus says. "But there are a lot of ballots yet to be counted and the race isn’t over."

So... are you gonna win? "Obviously, what we are seeing the right now is the same trend as primary, where voters favored Mike. Right now we feel very good."

First read the post title as "McGinn's Camp Reaction" and briefly thought McGinn was jealous of Adrian Ryan fawning over Mallahands.

So now that the election is over, will he stop pandering to the tunnelers?

Like what his website (still) says:

We Can Stop the Largest Tax Increase in Seattle History

Michael McGinn is the Only Candidate for Mayor Who Will Stop the Tunnel — the Largest Tax Increase in Seattle History.

Dom,
in the adult world of real journalism we wouldn't seek comment from the mayor-elect on the umpteenth meaningless update on the vote tally at 10pm on Friday evening.

if public figures don't jump thru your hoops you are quick to brand them assholes and idiots and haters and bigots etc etc and to turn your 'news coverage' into a not-veiled-at-all smear campaign.

so some politicians (those without the maturity and judgement and self esteem to tell slog to fuck itself and don't come back) will try to play your little game and appease you.
"here, kid, my cell phone number..."

however, without adult supervision, this game of 'Jr high school paper quality "journalism" grafted onto unaccountable widely disseminated tasteless assholery parading as "journalism"' can get real ugly real quick.

not everyone in town has nothing to do but wait breathlessly for the next drop.
especially the mayor-elect.

don't be the awkward little jerk who doesn't get it.

don't let the new title go to your head.

(do you have a fedora with a card that says "Press" stuck in the band yet?)

...And It used to be, in the "adult world of real journalism" - which was destroyed by TV long before The Stranger was even hatched - that we didn't have the technology to let every jealous little troll post vitriolic nastygrams whenever they felt like it. They actually had to sit down and write a letter to the editor, which they signed with their real name and address, and was promptly, and rightly, filed in the "round file" (a quaint, old-timey term for wastebasket)

If you don't like Dominic, fine. I don't like him, either (Just kidding, Dominic) but at least have the courage to address him as a real person. No one likes a scold - especially an anonymous one.

cat- I'm cut to the quick...
if I didn't like dom I wouldn't take the time.
he has talent and potential and if he were starting out at a small daily would learn some journalistic ethics and could make a first rate reporter.
it genuinely grieves me to see our impressionable young journalistic Oliver Twist fall into the hands of Nagin with all that that implies.

The on going editorial as journalism seem to be working for the Stranger.

It is their marketing plan.... multi Divas writing stuff. Dom will soon be on the air with opinions on everything and telling high school kids how to jack off ... and getting paid for it. A la Dan plan.

Why would they change now? Look at Fox Network, doing well with the same plan from the right ... just a matter of scale.

The sow's ear purse is the sow's ear purse, nothing else implied.
