A Conversation With Camp Mallahan

Posted by Dominic Holden on Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 9:27 PM

"I haven't talked to the team yet," says Charla Neuman, spokeswoman for mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan, "but I can tell you—uh, obviously this is not—it gets harder and harder to overcome these numbers. We're looking to see how many votes are left to be counted."

Is there any hope for Joe? "King County had another 30,000 votes dumped in today, which nobody would have expected—that's abnormally large," Neuman says. "We will wait and see, but it's not going in the right direction for us. We would have to see an immediate reversal in trend, I think, and an abnormally high one."

Going back to work at T-Mobile will have to suck. Good news is after this week's service, there are gobs of efficiencies to drive.

5) No. Just bemused. And a bit releaved I don't have to take responsibility for the mayor's office for the next four years. I'm proud of what I did overall to contribute to the success of last eight, and will continue to defend Nickels' legacy, if there are any left who care.

Desperately hoping to be wrong about my concerns for the next four.

Sic transit gloria mundi.

@6 - You and Roger should give McGinn a chance. I know you supported all his work before, so you can't think that bad of him.

I never supported his developer-funded work, which seemed to me, simply to have been a launching pad for his campaign. Prior to his running, I was unaware of it. My partner had, at one point expressed respect for it, but in retrospect feels duped. It will be interesting to see to what extent it survives the departure of its founder. The website is already showing signs of neglect. For instance:

"Pilot Projects
In 2009 Great City plans to work on various Greenscapes and Green Infrastructure Pilot Projects.
Check Back soon for more information"

2009. Well, they better get on that.

Look, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, at this point. Do I have a choice? It's just that the few people I know who have worked with him have found him by turns either impossible to deal with or ineffective.

Again, desperately hoping to be proven wrong. Four years is a long time.

Roddy, I realize you're far smarter than the apparent majority of Seattle voters, but it's still far too early to cast such a wide net.

I wonder if Mallahan is going to see this as a wake up call if he wants to run for office again:

1. Vote
2. Volunteer on a local level to help your community
3. Don't brag about driving 6 blocks, taking the bus only when drunk, and having the votes of "insiders"
4. Rely on volunteers and don't throw in so much of your own money
5. Be available to the public and don't back out of scheduled events
AND LASTLY

6. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!

Unfortunately for Mallahan, he will now be seen as the GUY WHO LOST and any actions he will take from this point on will be viewed in a cynical light.

Roddy has it right. Most of the time Mike McGinn is impossible to deal with and ineffective simultaneously. Lovely.
