Very exciting news just in from Sound Transit: The newest stretch of our light rail system—winding from downtown to Capitol Hill then the University District—opens on March 19.

Seattle Transit Blog has details on the opening day party.

It'll take the train about eight minutes to get from downtown to the U-District and just three minutes to get from Capitol Hill to the U-District. Thanks to this new leg, Sound Transit estimates some 71,000 more people will ride light rail by 2030.
