After trailing on Election Night, Lisa Herbold has officially won her race for Seattle City Council District 1, representing West Seattle and South Park. The race, which was separated by just 39 votes after all the ballots were cast, went to a recount because it was so close.

Herbold told Publicola last week that Braddock had called to congratulate her on her apparent victory.

Braddock did not return The Stranger's request for comment last week, but today she released an official concession statement:

I congratulate Lisa Herbold on her election win to represent District 1 on the Seattle City Council and wish her the best in her new role. This was a very hard fought campaign as demonstrated by the extremely close election results. I am immensely grateful to the campaign volunteers and supporters who have stood with me throughout this prolonged election. It has been a privilege to be a candidate to represent West Seattle and South Park and I will continue to be engaged in our community in my professional and personal life. I have always been proud to be a part of this community and I am all the more so after this campaign. Thank you.

The county elections office still hasn't officially certified the results; they're expected to do that this afternoon. Herbold said after observing the recount process there were no changes to either candidate's vote totals. If so, she won the seat by 39 votes—or, in percentage terms, 49.75 percent of the vote in District 1. (Braddock got 49.59 percent and the rest was made up by write-in votes.)

Herbold has been a long-time aide to lefty council member Nick Licata, who's retiring. She'll be sworn in, along with two other new council members, in January.

UPDATE: The county elections office certified the results and Herbold's 39-vote win at about 2:30 p.m. today, making this officially official.
