In case you were wondering, last night's initial count shows perennial candidate Goodspaceguy winning 14.6 percent of the vote against port commission incumbent Courtney Gregoire:

King County Elections

As we've mentioned before, Goodspaceguy doesn't believe in the minimum wage. He's now run for local office 16 times, often on a space colonization platform. This port commission race, he characterized himself as "the capitalist" candidate and told us that Courtney Gregoire didn't understand economics. More than 31,000 people in King County voted for him.

According to the Port of Seattle's chief of staff, Mike Merritt, Goodspaceguy's relatively strong showing isn't anything "unusual." In port races against an incumbent, perennial candidates tend to do okay. He cited the example of Richard Pope, who in 2013 ran against port commissioner Tom Albro and actually won 40 percent of the vote.

But Richard Pope, who Goldy notes has some political substance to him, is not Goodspaceguy.

If any of the 31,000 people who voted for Goodspaceguy would like to come to The Stranger offices and get slapped, we're around today.
