After spending several hours in the past couple weeks in front of a DIY button maker—volunteering for the organizers of #ShoutYourAbortion—I couldn't believe the scale of the new GIGANTIC BUTTON on the side of All Seasons Dry Cleaners, near the corner of Broadway and East Olive Way. I stood there for at least 20 minutes, just watching people walk by. Mostly people didn't notice it. It seemed like women noticed it less than men did. A worker fellow in a King County Metro uniform who was warning folks of Metro bus delays (because of that kid that went joy-riding in a garbage truck) stopped and looked at the giant button with me. "I like it!" he said. "That'll really rile up the right-wingers, won't it?"
The #SYA button was put there by a public artist who goes by No Touching Ground. Stranger Visual Art Editor Jen Graves has documented NTG here, here, and here.
NTG has also put up two more pieces up in Capitol Hill, in support of #ShoutYourAbortion in the past few days….
