Good god, this chart is depressing.

As of last night at 8 p.m., voter turnout was at about 16.5 percent citywide. That's just barely above the 15 percent countywide turnout.

Most of the city council districts are hovering around 15 or 16 percent of ballots returned. Southeast Seattle's District 2 (the city's only majority-minority council district) has the lowest turnout with about 14.5 percent. District 3 (Capitol Hill, Central District) has the highest turnout with about 20 percent.

Still, even the Sawant army in District 3—assuming they're the ones driving up participation—hasn't yet reached the levels of the last couple primaries, back in the good/bad ol' days when council members were elected citywide. Voter turnout in the city was 36 percent in the 2011 primary and 35 percent in the 2013 primary.

Translation: This year is underwhelming. SO FAR. We say "so far" because in past years, a lot of ballots are returned on or around the very last day of the election. Which is TODAY.

And there appears to be some good turnout news in the form of procrastinating Slog / Stranger readers. If the number of you reading our endorsements at the very last fucking minute last night is any indication, turnout numbers could spike after all the ballots sent in today are counted. We got this snapshot of traffic to our endorsements from our overlords upstairs:

Good job, late voters! Now get those ballots postmarked today or into one of these drop boxes by 8 p.m. so we can all become members of the 30+ percent! (Because really, the 16-ish percent is a sad, sad club to belong to.)
