Looking forward to this. I was a big fan of SAW, SAW 2, Caustic Window, and especially Polygon Window, but he lost me around ICBYD. Drukqs is okay though if not my absolute favorite from him. 13 years! Eek.

My favorite from his Warp compadres right now is Black Dog. Liber Dogma especially was an amazingly minimal album.

Syro is the 'most accessible' of the yet unheard albums RDJ has in store for the world. Given that bit of knowledge, this track is sufficiently ill for my tastes. It probably will benefit from the context of the full album.

Thumbs (optimistically, melancholically) up.

I can't wait to compare this to his 42 track Analord series he released in 2009 that we're not allowed to mention in any Aphex Twin article for whatever reason.

Listening to Drukqs right now I am struck by how I actually like this album quite a bit. I've forgotten about it. I probably listened to it a lot ten years ago, LOL.

I'm enjoying it. I always preferred his beat driven music than his abstract stuff. It doesn't have to break new ground, he didn't make music to be an "innovator," other people labelled him that way. He's just a composer. If the music is good then it's good.

Sometimes putting out a really good tune is all that is needed. They don't all have to be Windowlicker or SAW 2. This is absolutely lazy/twitchy coming down Sunday morning music watching the sun come up through the clouds in November cuz you can't sleep and joggers go by as you smoke cigarettes and drink mimosas and then your friends get you off the porch for pajamas and anime and wippits.
