Well, second degree murder is where it's not premeditated in cold blood, it's just something that happened spontaneously on the spur of the moment. Second degree sodomy is where, as British newspapers like to say, "one thing led to another" and something was inserted accidentally into something else. Now that "Youth Pastor Watch" has raked (deservedly so) these youth pastors over the coals for quite a few years now, how about raking Muslim extremists over the coals for mutilating little girls' genitals, stonings, honor killings, all generally more horrific than any of these "tame-by-comparison" youth pastors.

@6: It's not extremists. It's local congregations, communities of otherwise-innocuous worship who are so blind to the human capacity for evil that they assume that nobody who acts pious could possibly be a bad person.
Extremist Islamic fundamentalists proudly support enforcing at gunpoint their views on others and putting to the sword those who refuse to convert, but Christian churches in this country not uncommonly refuse to guard against the same sort of insidious corruption that they publicly deplore.

They seem to take "suffer the little children" a tad too literally.

Grown men have been doing this to children for more than a million years. There is much more at play here than meets the eye. But it is difficult to extract it's elements with the emotions it evokes. I believe religion's role is inherently designed.
