And don't forget this from the '70s era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6awYn56…

His 80's period was Awesome. He played in John Lydon's PIL and released a clutch of records produced by Bill Laswell - "Horses and Trees" being the best. And moved continued to release excellent Jazz records for the next 20 years.

In fact he has a new jazz trio album coming out this year.

A friend once told me a joke: "what do Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce have in common? They are both better without Cream"

I was like, wtf? That joke is exactly backwards. The only member who has wildly improved is Ginger Baker.

Cream and LSD were on the menu. Great stuff! Thanks!

As mentioned I'm reading "Man On The Run" about Paul McCartney's solo years during the 1970s.

I just finished the segment on the "Band on the Run" sessions in Lagos, Nigeria. There was an amusing story about how Paul snubbed Ginger Baker by using a ramshackle EMI studio when Baker had just finished building a state of the art one there. To smooth things over, Paul recorded one song, "Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me)", at Baker's place.

Good Morning Mike et al,
Definitely check out if you haven't already, "Beware of Mr. Baker". It's an outstanding documentary released last year. It is currently out on DVD.

Ginger Baker is a hellion but a great percussionist.

Please wait...
