"Halinski said Campbell handed her a gun and told her it was unloaded and the safety was on, according to court documents. She said he always unloaded a gun and put the safety on before handing it to her, according to a probable cause statement.

She said Campbell told her to point the gun toward him and said, 'Shoot me.'"

In case people were wondering what kind of voter would opt for Todd Akin on the ballot...

I wonder if she's telling the truth. Either she's lying and murdered him in a fit of inebriated rage, or he caused his own death by handing a loaded gun to his girlfriend and telling her it was unloaded and to "shoot" him with it.
We'll never really know.

I'm of the opinion that people shouldn't point guns at living things and pull the trigger.

I'm also of the opinion that a person is responsible for their actions when they shoot someone.

Cognitive Dissonance is a very powerful evolutionary adaptation which isn't always adaptive in all situations.

I've seen people at free clinics complain about how socialized medicine is evil...well...yes like @5 says: one less!

If the NRA spent more time educating gun owners, like it used to, and less time treating their dangers flippantlu in the press, the idea of donating funds to them after someone died playing with a firearm like a toy would make sense. As late as the 1950s, the family's request could have been understandable, and not stupid.

Look at all the related articles in the left sidebar. Hmm. There's a whole lot of "oops I accidentally shot him with a gun I thought wasn't loaded and I was drinking anyway so it ain't murder" shootings in Festus America. You have to wonder if this isn't a redneck method for getting away with murder, or at least getting a light sentence.

Too bad he didn't get to Rule 2 of responsible gun ownership: all guns are always loaded, and Rule 3: "Never point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot".

It just seems like a bad idea to listen to someone when they say "point this (unloaded) gun at me and 'shoot', LOL!"

But logic & rationality aren't exactly valued skills in this country.
