Hi Mike,
I highly recommend the film on DVD, "Shadows" by John Cassavettes (1959). It features the music of Charles Mingus.

What a fantastic piece of music. I'd be curious how you whistle those looping horn parts. Perhaps you could upload such a thing to Soundcloud? Regardless, thanks for the wake-up call this morning.

One of the greatest American composers, full stop. His legacy isn't what it could be since he was in jazz and fairly late, but he deserves to be up with Gershwin in American musical history. Something more orchestral: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz7_toQc…

Best post of the day!

Mingus!

@2 it's pretty hard to whistle sextuplets. You're better off going with "dah-duh-la dah-duh-la". At least that's how I do it. :-) Anybody who's interested in Mingus really needs to check out Cumbia Jazz Fusion. It's a mammoth piece that highlights all of the wonderful aspects of his compositional style yet is pretty unknown even amongst Mingus fans.

I dunno how I does it, but I does it! I have a really pointy and long tongue, maybe thats how? I can also whistle the intro to Iron Maiden's "The Trooper."

Please wait...
