Wow, that's a huge loss. He was a really special musician, really adept at getting incredible performances from the people he worked with.Plus his politics were fucking spot on. I saw him in Seattle maybe 6 or 7 years ago... always thought I would see him again. -snif-

So many great recordings. Also recommend his Quartet West group (especially s/t first album) and the albums he recorded with Paul Motian (and Bill Frisell, Dewy Redman, Joe Lovano) in the last few decades.
