It really bothered me in the first one that the apes didn't just become intelligent, they became gods. They flew (or, jumped like 30 feet in the air), dodged bullets, outran cars— I get the draw of an over-the-top action sequence, but I think they dropped the ball on establishing the rules of the world we were watching.
