I wish I had remembered to send them pictures of other erect penises last night.

Remember, when proving that it's his penis, we also prove that it is not someone else's penis. Thus, pictures of other penises which don't look like his are evidence that increases the likelihood that the penis in question is his!

So send them penises, for evidence!

Make sure they're erect, since that's what they want.

Flying monkeys can be very effective. It would be fun to see a video of them answering phone calls for a while. Or watching their e-mail in box explode. I'm entertained by the mere thought of it.

The Second Battle of Manassas. Congratulations Dan, you called their bull and made them run.

According to the link below, in Virginia it's also illegal to have sex out of wedlock, with the lights on, and in any position other than missionary. Enforcing any of the aforementioned isn't half as stupid as destroying a child's life with a law designed to protect children.

Virginia is not for lovers.

This is good news.

Several commenters on yesterday's thread speculated on the possibility that the defendant is black, and one suggested that racism may have played a role in his aggressive prosecution. The situation wasn't helped by the Manassas PD's frantic focus on exculpatory (in their view) press releases and CYA Facebook posts.

But to be clear, there was another near-simultaneous child-pornography case being handled by them that involved a black defendant. This tweet—

https://twitter.com/ManassasCityPD/statu…

—appears to lead to this arrest report—

http://www.manassascity.org/ArchiveCente…

—and that case has nothing to do with the sexting case. Without wanting to further identify or link to the sexting/police assault defendant/victim (though he and his family already voluntarily submitted to an interview in which he is named and appears on video), I'll just note that he is white. I don't know anything about the juvenile female involved.

@5

Not race, but class.

The discrimination in this case is about class and gender.
8
@5.
I read that too and I find it just too close to be comfortable to know what is happening. Manassas says Police "contacted by a parent of a 15 YOA
female juvenile who was sent pornographic videos by a 17 YOA male suspect after repeatedly being told to stop."

I tweeted to ask for clarification but no response.

Kids who get away with this sort of thing grow into adults who think that this sort of thing is okay. Protip: If it's illegal for the Ward, it's illegal for the Beaver as well.
10
I don't know why parents allow their children to have smartphones or computers in their bedrooms in the first place. The computer in the den is sufficient and a cell phone (no data plan) for when they're out. That's it.
11
@9 what "sort of thing"? Sending softcore naughty pictures of yourself to your significant other? Heaven forfend! *faints dead away* It might lead to...dancing!

treehugger: I'm going to preempt your idiotic points by copying and pasting my response to you from the other thread. Hopefully this will spare the readers of this thread from having to wade through post after post about how everyone who thinks this scenario is ridiculous MUST have a secret stash of underage dick pics they're trying to defend, as you stupidly insisted in that thread.

And here it is:

If and when an ADULT possesses pornographic images of a minor, that ADULT should be charged with possession of child pornography, regardless of who took and sent the image. Nobody here has argued otherwise.

It’s nonsensical for the minor in question to be charged with victimizing himself. Minors can legally sleep with other minors without committing statutory rape. They can also masturbate without having committed child molestation. This same logic applies to sexting, even if our laws as written haven’t caught up yet.

When an adult sleeps with a minor, we charge the ADULT with statutory rape. We don’t also send the minor to jail for committing statutory rape against themselves (using an adult’s genitals to do so). Similarly, we can update our porn laws in such a way where it remains illegal for adults to possess and distribute pornographic images of minors without having to charge the minors themselves with a crime.

So no, one doesn’t have to be a secret pervert to believe that children shouldn’t be among those prosecuted for child porn. This may be a convenient little accusation to lob against anyone who disagrees with your idiotic views, but it’s also inaccurate and intellectually lazy (and, since you’re actually the one defending the non-consensual production of MORE underage dick pics here, a little creepy).

Also, teens who "get away with" sexting each other will not therefore grow up into adults who sext teens. Do you also think that teens who date each other during high school will all grow up and continue trying to date high schoolers? I don't think you know how cause-and-effect works.

@3, 6: *chuckle*

Let it be mandated that about every 20 years Manassas must burst into the national conscious as a result of a penis.

@10 So when you were young your parents blocked your access to, books, newspapers, the library, the radio, TV., the postal service, telephones, cameras, movies, games, maps, and so on and so forth?

Seriously you need to think about it that way because that is what the tech involved here is. All wrapped up in one package. You couldn't and wouldn't do it as a parent today. The question is would you understand enough to have the proper discussions with your children.
16
Children have been playing I show you mine, you show me yours for generations. The difference is that they now have smartphones and iPads to share with.

This was certainly stupid behavior on both kids' parts and should have consequences. But those should be along the lines of losing cell phone and computer privileges. Not four years in prison and a lifetime in the sex offender database!

17
Dan- Thanks for alerting us to this. It's disgusting. Real child pornographers are out there NOT being caught and Virginia is wasting money prosecuting/damaging for life a teen engaging in consensual cyber-sex!
I feel like we need to go up the food chain.
Would you be willing to direct the monkeys to the governor's office? Publish that email!
18
@3,
Bravo sir!
19
Bottom line, if someone under eighteen takes or receives images of themselves or other minors, they should NOT be treated the same as a pervert with 20GB of toddler porn. These laws need to be updated to conform with new technology.
Granted, certain readers of The Stranger seem to think that would be absurd and would make life easier for a pedophile, but those individuals are simply to small minded to warrant any attention.
20
@9 What? You say you want adults who don't send naughty pics to each other? You do know that the two kids involved where both fine with it, right?

@10 well how will they be able to send images to their boy/girlfriends then? Wont that be awkward walking in on your teenager trying to use the "den computers" webcam to take photo's of his/her crotch...
21
Has there been an equal measure of criticism against the judge who issued the warrant?
22
There should be Juliette laws for this sort of thing. If it's legal for a seventeen-year-old to have a real live fifteen-year-old partner, then no one should bat an eye that they have photos of each other.
23
@10, why? I understand those kinds of restrictions for kids with behavior problems, but most kids don't have behavior problems, so why shouldn't any kids be allowed to have a computer in their bedroom?
24
@LJM

Don't wonder too much about Phoebe's posts, he/she's the real-life Betty Bowers, holier-than-though and judgemental.

But this time I actually agree with the computer part.

Kids shouldn't be allowed to have a computer in their bedroom because it's a place where they do two things that are negatively impacted by computers : they sleep (or rest) and they do their homeworks.

What's a constant of kids who fail in highschool ? Computer and/or TV in the bedroom.

If the computer's in the bedroom, how are the adults going to chock that the child doesn't play all night on it ? Sleep deprivation leads to bad school results, and possibly psychological and behavioral problems. As for homeworks, will they be really worked on, when they're done alongside a running, or soon to be running computer ?

Besides, computers are addictive and a child may well cease existing for the rest of the world and only focus on "my friend the computer". Which cuts short the child's socialization. And this may not be noticeable until it's far too late to be remediated.

So no TV, no computer in a child's bedroom. They're far too engrossing and too addictive for a developping mind in its best learning years.
25
Good for you Dan. Good for the aunt.
26
@24 - My son is only in the fourth grade, but already a good portion of his homework is done on a computer. Each kid has a Google drive they can get to from home or from school where they can write documents. And some portion of the math homework is online sites like ALEKS and Khan academy.

I do agree that the computer(s) can be kept in public areas of the house, though.
27
@citrine

Thanks for widening the issue. I entirely agree with you : kids should have some access to the computer(s), obviously for homeworks but also for culture and enjoyment, but not in their bedrooms.

Emailed the following to this idiot and his boss:

You want to force a minor to have a medical procedure against his will and the will of his legal guardian?

What kind of doctor would even agree to this?

Have you considered the side effects of this injection?

A 30 second Google search yielded the following:

Side Effects

Injections occasionally can result in a painful, prolonged erection (priapism). Call your doctor if an erection lasts longer than 3 hours. If the erection isn't relieved, it may damage tissues inside the penis.

Other side effects of injections may include:

Bruising.
Pain in the penis (usually mild to moderate). Pain in the penis was reported by about 4 out of 10 men in one study. Injecting the medicine slowly may help prevent pain. Only a few men stop using the medicine because of pain.
Formation of scar tissue in the penis (fibrosis).

For the sake of everyone, resign before you do even more harm.

Please wait...
