It means that there is another unnecessary thing for liberals to enjoy getting outraged about. I'm not being flippant about problems minority actors have, quite the contrary. The art, the play, the director, drives the performance.
To mix in sociological and demographic concerns into theater productions putting the cart before the horse.

Best response I've seen. I might use it.

Six weeks ago we were casting a role for a theater company. We needed an African-American actor between 18 and 30, Equity or Non-Equity, and in good shape (athletically-built). Those were the entire requirements for the role. We posted the audition notice to the TPS site & asked that actors submit a 1-minute monologue video, so they didn't even have to leave their homes to audition. How many responses did we get? Not a single one.

As an Asian American actor, I worked full time in Seattle before moving to NYC. In Seattle I played a lot of roles that would have traditionally gone to white actors. I think something we haven't talked about is the business side of theatre. GreenStage doesn't pay a lot of money to their actors and not everyone can afford to only take a modest stipend for a whole summer's worth of work. I'd be interested to know how many ethnic Equity actors vs. ethnic non Equity actors there are in Seattle and how many work full time in theatre.
