no cross comment on the latest "munchie"/stoner jack-in-the-box offering? i wonder how their time purchase for these ads is distributed? washington and colorado one would presume
What is so fucking hard about a "We are all [essentially, at our core] the same" message? You looking to pick a fight or something?
And what @3 says. Burger King is probably the number 2 fast food advertiser in the U.S. Their public image is essential to their business. Bless them for putting a little of it on the line. A more weaselly company wouldn't have risked it.
I'd have been more impressed if they'd done this ten, or even five years ago. Now companies are jumping on the bandwagon because it's "safe". They don't have to run any risks, and they'll be rewarded because many gay people are so hungry for mainstream acceptance (and why not?)
I'm not saying I object to this; I'm saying BK isn't exactly deserving of a Profile in Courage nomination. Fer chrissakes, there were multiple car dealerships flogging their products at Portland Pride this year. It doesn't get more American Mainstream than hamburgers and new cars.
@7, no, after the woman describes it "as the same shit" at 1m 5 sec, Emily says "everything is the same on the inside, it's just the outside".
I'm just not sure why wrapping a burger in a rainbow but saying "it's the same" is a less pandering/patronizing strategy than if I decided to remake some labels and rebrand some deodorants as LTBGQ deodorant. I am curious how BK franchises in the bible belt will react though.
I thought it was a joke at first, but I liked the last 15 seconds. I hate marketing, but this might change one or two minds. There are still dumbshits in the Texas Republican Party using homophobia to campaign for election.
While this is a very nice gesture, and I approve and like it, I suspect this will not be a national TV ad and will be limited to online viewing and potential broadcast in areas friendly to the message. It also seems a bit long for a typical TV ad...
Still - thumbs up from me, but I haven't eaten fast food from anywhere in many, many years and this won't send me back.
Nice enough.
What's their stance on minimum wage and health insurance for their employees?
Do we wait for another supreme court decision to see that commercial?
I would like the "This pays for my mammogram" burger, please.
And a side of "The rent is due" fries.
Apparently today is the last day to get a Pride Whopper, although maybe it'll take a while to clear out old inventory of rainbow wrappers in select markets a la Safeway's handleless bags.

The chain says the "Proud Whopper" video was shot over the past weekend in San Francisco, near where the city held its 44th annual gay pride parade. Fernando Machado, who heads global brand management for Burger King, said in a phone interview the "Proud Whopper" will remain on the menu until Thursday.
If a Proud Whopper is the same as a regular Whopper, then why the rainbow wrapper? I suspect these are flawed and degenerate burgers, and Burger King is trying to hide it.
In other burger news, and just in time for holiday grilling, Safeway/Vons' Lucerne store brand has just added Blue Marble® Monterey Jack slices (UPC 021130 048380), a milder and non-crumbling blue cheese previously only available at (and licensed from) Nasonville Dairy of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Goddamn, somebody take the package away from me. It won't last 'til tomorrow at this rate.
This inspired me to release a flock of doves every time somebody agrees to purchase Amway products from me, because good feelings and crap products make an enticing bundle (just kidding). You want to Impress me Burger King? Pay a living wage. That helps everybody, regardless of sexual orientation. We don't need profit motivated fake symbolic emotional hugs. We need living wages. People not living in desperation treat everyone better. We'll work out our differences on our own.
If BK supported pride in all geographical regions to include conservative areas that are not gay tolerant, I will go and put an unwrapped Whopper in my mouth, challenging my gag reflexes, regardless of health risks. ;)
I think it's great to see yet another corporate giant essentially tell homophobes to fuck off. And yes, mass-produced burger aside, that was really touching. Nice work BK.

The video was lovely and I thank BK for their support.

This question needs answers...
And @16 yes, they do, apparently.

The future is a wonderful place. America... fuck yeah.
Should've wrangled that position into a poll option...
Well, I just find it shocking, (SHOCKING!) that you would call into question their obviously altruistic motives here!
(and yeah, yeah, I thought it was sweet too. Poll option #1 nailed it, actually.)
Other than my husband.
Any ad that features a customer affectionately describing the company's flagship product as "the same shit" is not intended for broad distribution.
