Or hike the cable pools below Capilano dam. Then go to the Edgemont Village for brunch. Then to Lynn Canyon for a swim (beautiful but cold). Then to one of the great Greek restaurants on Marine Drive. Then to a pub like the Queen's Cross for beer.
Americans go to the Capilano suspension bridge, but it's a rip. I'd drive up to Grouse and go for a hike or drive up to Horseshoe Bay, grab a beer and watch the ferries.
i make fun of your earnestness from time to time (Good Morning Charles schtick). as if my opinion matters, i think you're a good egg. even if Grant has already done that hike you mention, coming from you, I think he'd have fun doing it again.
my suggestion: i've never been but wherever they hold the "Under The Volcano" festival would be where I'd go. The unstoppable amazing fuck all ya author of that book and others, such good Literature. Maybe even drink yourself to death, Grant.
North Vancouver or Oklahoma City suburban mall area- nothing to see there.
One should scurry on down to Hastings to partake of the many happening bars. Then, write a column about the whole experience. Leave copious notes, just in case.
The Windows 95 desktop clouds are prettier than those in Grant's picture. Does anyone, Paul Constant, know of an app I can download to get cloud info - nomenclature, aesthetic stats, fluffiness?
Even better after a hike, but not required.

Sailing at West Van. Yacht Club is pretty awesome, you could always head that way with beer and a smile.
