It takes me about 6 minutes to figure out which uniforms are ours...
2
Going to be a long game for Howard if we just keep giving Germany the ball back every time it crosses midfield.

I left work early to watch this game, US better not disappoint.
3
@3
Uh oh. "US better not disappoint" sounds like a veiled threat. I pity the US if they lose. Ted is an intelligent tough guy.
4
Germans blitzkrieg has quieted.
5
You guys are playing really well, actually. Germany's being overly cautious. It looks like their main goal is to finish the game without any injuries or bookings while you're playing to win.
6
German defenders are slllloooooowww.
7
Gonzalez with a yellow card? That's a little troubling.
8
So if the POR-GHA game stays at 1-0 we can just lose.
9
@8: That's what Chamberlain said about Poland.
10
It can be hard to tell since FIFA officiating is so terrible and inconsistent across the board, but it kind of seems like Germany is getting away with a lot of stuff the US team is getting flagged for.

But hey, let's keep this tie-train humming along.
11
@9 lol

I was a little concerned about the officiating, looked like Germany got away with a couple offsides, but its been more consistent since then.

Our defense is looking OK, I think we can hold on, maybe sneak in a set piece goal somewhere. Or bring on Yedlin and let him run around their wings :)
12
Is this what "playing to draw" looks like?
13
So this is soccer eh? Zzzzzzzzzzz
14
I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL TIE!
I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL TIE!
I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL TIE!...
15
Another nice defensive play by Gonzalez.
16
Ugh, our defense was sleeping, thank god Germany flubbed the cross.
17
Shit.
18
Fuck, Howard can not be expected to be our entire defense..
19
Müller!!!!!!!!!
20
I hereby declare that neither Portugal nor Ghana may score any more goals until tomorrow.
21
Dempsey flopped, but that collision looked painful.
22
Oh shit. Are we going to have to thank Ronaldo for our advancement?
23
Deutschland über alles
24
In comes Yedlin.
25
More suspect calls from the officials.
26
Never seen a losing crowd look so jubilant, USA advances.
27
We got through. Going into the World Cup, nobody gave us much of a chance of getting out of this group. That's a pretty big accomplishment for U.S. soccer.
28
@27 amen! And with lots of MLS players too! US Soccer has a lot to be proud of today :)
29
Can American writers please stop with this pretentious Euro-style subject/verb agreement when writing about soccer? The USA WINS, not win. Germany IS fielding, not are.

Are we only going to do this when writing about soccer? Or only international soccer? Will we revert to standard American English when writing about the Sounders in MLS play?

Please wait...
