This is surprisingly common in Savage Love letters -- a letter launches in talking about "my boyfriend" without first mentioning basic information like "I am a straight woman." I don't know if that's because that's how their written or if the info is lost in editing.
2
Yeah, I was 100% confused by that letter/response, because I also thought the writer of the letter was a woman.
3
I assume a straight person unless otherwise stated or inferred for two reasons: 1) Most people are straight and 2) straight people don't tend to mention their sexuality mostly because of (1).
4
Tsk, tsk, you're getting old, Dan. Before too long, maybe even your sexual orientation could change, and you could find yourself be fantasizing about three-ways with female cousins. Think about that.
5
I always assume a straight person because when the column started, it was advice for straight people. Old habits, even passive ones like reading, die hard.
6
I assumed a straight man because he mentions Penthouse, as in being a dude writing into Penthouse forum with his completely made-up true story about 2 young women tearing off his business suit in a stuck elevator. What lesbian would write into penthouse forum?
7
Dan,
1. Do you edit letters for clarity?
2. Do you have a "How to Write a 'Savage Love' Narrative" to help people write something coherent?

I read the letter and I couldn't figure out what/who etc. Took 2 readings which was actually worth only 1.

here's the part that I don't get:

it's when LavaGirl jumps in, as Dan, talking to OBA, about Joan's advise

"...Breaking in again: Yes, yes, yes! Hire someone! You're 70 years old, OBA, and you've been waiting 50 years to get in your cousin's bloomers. Young couples complain about how hard it is to find a willing third—they're called "unicorns" for a reason—and forgive me for being ageist, but time is not on your side. Hire someone immediately—and hire someone older, and someone who has been in the field for a while (look for reviews online), as they're less likely to rip you off or play you...."

what the fuck is that all about?
9
You having a lend of me dirtclustit?
10
I was coming back on here to say Dan, you dear boy, glad you got it sorted.. And found dear dirtclustit accusing you of impersonating
me.. Geez , though, it does seem to be going around..
11
I get annoyed by every SL letter that doesn't start out, "I'm a XX year old ________ who is..." Maybe his email link could somehow specify this basic info as required, in order to be considered for a response or something.
12
It never occurred to me that the lw could be a woman. For one thing, the letter says these two 70 year-olds have flirted and joked about getting it on with each other for years, and yet the cousin is recently "divorced," which probably means the cousin has been married to a man. So I found the odds of a very closeted 70-year-old lesbian flirting with her lesbian cousin for 50 years to be much slimmer than the odds that a pair of opposite-sex cousins would have flirted for 50 years.

Then there's the fact that the cousin wants to have her first "lesbian experience" but can't ask the lw to provide it, and instead just wants the lw to watch and then "join" in. If the lw was a woman, why would she need to watch; why would they have to try to find a lesbian for the cousin?

Lastly, the lw says: This is a kinky dream come true! I love oral sex, and with two pussies to eat, etc., the whole thing sounds just great! How kinky is cunnilingus to a lesbian? Not that much. How kinky is it for a straight man to watch two women get it on and then get to eat two pussies (and what about that "etc.")? Much more so and much more Penthouse Forum-worthy.

Plus, and apologies, I guess I'm heterocentric, for the simple reason that straight people are approximately 90-96% of the population.
13
Hey, LavaGirl, Dirtclustit almost had one moment of clarity, let's rejoice !
14
Hey back sissoucat, yeah Dirtclustit sure has a wild turn of
phrase and mind .. And a very cheeky sense of humour.
15
Hope I didn't offend you LavaGirl, just got a little carried away with a forensic linguistic study of be written English Language.

I cannot rightly answer your question without knowing which variant you use; embedded or inbedded
16
and for the record, it really isn't clear what the situation is, the only portion that can be considered clear, is that the cousin is a she.

If the letter writer is a male, then the third party would be a female

However, it would make just as much sense if the letter writer is female, and her cousin needed her first lesbian experience start with hetero-sex acts and then shift gears into lesbian-sex acts

in which case the letter writer was referencing the use of a gay- or bi-sexual male used to initiate the acts. The employment of a gay- or bi-sexual male would make sense as noted that the letter writer wanted to avoid a man whose boyfriend was waiting to Rob the place
17
No cute name nailed it.
I never thought the LW was female either.
18
Ah Dirtclustit, embedded or imbedded?? Right.
Are you having a lend of me- I'm taking on Ricky Gervaise language. You know, you trying to take the piss.
No offense taken, as always, ( well my short time following Dans
Site), I enjoy your very particular view of things. And hey, you defended me when I was a newbie - so we'll always be buddies, in my book..

Hello there. I am on this website, not because of any interest in what your website is stating, but only for the fact that my brother in law, loves Mike Savage. He listens to his radio show everyday. In fact, he records each and every radio show that comes on. He is legally blind, but is able to use a computer, record music and radio talk shows, and the like. He argues out loud, and makes comments, either in agreement or disagreement, about what Mike Savage has to say. The family is always worried that he will have a stroke, because he gets so fired up, angry, upset, or just plain argumentative. You can not talk to him while Mike Savage is performing his radio show time. My brother in law is sixty four years of age, lives with his mother, and doesn't have any friends to talk to. He lives in a world of his own, surrounded by family on a day to day basis.

Two days ago, Mike Savage had his air time, and my brother in law got so excited and argumentative that he had to be hospitalized. The doctor told his mother and Aunt that he probably suffered a TIA, but after his results came back from several types of scans, it turned out he suffered a heart stroke. My brother in law takes care of his health overall, so this illness is a shock to the family. We were lucky he made it, but he could have many more strokes in the future, if he continues to listen to Mike Savage, and any other liberal that fits his interest. At one time, rumor had it that the Mike Savage show was going to be cancelled, yet today, it is still being aired.

His mother just came out of the hospital after her operation. She is recovering slowly, and she is now eighty eight years of age. Now, her second son, who resides with her, is ill too. It is too much on our family, as most of us work, or are taking care of a grandchild who happens to be only 21 month's old.

My voice today, is that, my brother in law will continue to listen to your show, since he knows it all, and can manage his illness on his own. He will find that that thought is not true. He will continue with his comments out loud, getting made and excited after listening to your future radio shows, and he will suffer a stroke again.

I will be doing some research on strokes and its appearance after listening to Mike Savage or Rush, or any one else that talks rebelliously to their audience through radio airing. If I find there are others out there with the same experience as my brother in law, I will have to take steps to get you to stop airing all of your negativities, or just stop airing on radio completely.

Introverts live in a world completely different that those that get along with people outside of their own family. My brother in law suffers with that and his vision, but he still is capable of carrying on communication with others. When he does something, he does it 100%. His time out to listen and comment to your radio show is also 100%. It is not healthy, but what else does my brother in law have in his life's world. You are his hero, but to the family, a couple of days ago, you were his devastation.

I hope the time will come soon, when you will no longer be aired on radio.

God Bless.
