West of Lenin sounds like a good band name. Lenin Burglarized is also pretty good. Oh that's right it's about the music, not the name or whatever stupid crap reviewers and critics write. For shame noone called out that crap music by Uh Huh H or something earlier. Fez hat made a comment, derogatory I think, maybe not. But the sacrilege of naming her album after PJ with the crap music along with it? Noone wants to stand up and respect Ms Harvey?? The shitty sounds this chick made wasn't a show of respect. I'm talking about Culture, sorry I'm off-topic.

Gary Oldman is not a prick. I read his comments, and there wasn't anything in there except a lament that teh internets are focusing a huge magnifying glass on human foibles (my interpretation, YOMV).

Gary Oldman said nothing first-person-offensive (You are an XYZ and you need to fuck off and die.). At best his remarks are third-person-offensive ("I disagree that he/she meant to be offensive.") I'm all for equality and sensitivity to diversity, but we need to have a conversation about how many degrees of separation from bigots are permissible. Can you be a friend of a bigot? A friend of a friend? A friend of a friend of a friend?

Where does it stop?

@1: Fez hat made a grammatical comment. Nothing more.

:)
5
Playboy + assholes, not that I remember seeing.
6
@2: So you agree that "we've all said those things"?

Gary O.: "I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all fucking hypocrites. That’s what I think about it. The policeman who arrested him has never used the word nigger or that fucking Jew? I’m being brutally honest here. It’s the hypocrisy of it that drives me crazy. Or maybe I should strike that and say “the N word” and “the F word,” though there are two F words now."
7
Anyone who thinks Star Wars hasn't been away for about 20 years already isn't really aware of Star Wars.
8
Not going to any Playboy website, nope, not happening.

Going off what @6 posted (thank you, stinkbug), the question is less whether one has used such terms, and under what circumstances. Did Gibson use the N-word at that arrest? I recall the anti-Jewish stuff and the sexist stuff, but not the anti-black stuff, but if he did, then really? After the Lethal Weapon movies, too?

But I would ask Oldman when he used those words and under what circumstances. Did he call Morgan Freeman or one of the other two or three black actors a nigger out of anger when something didn't work on the sets of the Dark Knight films?
9
The Playboy article was pretty good. Good read, thanks. I don't want to say too much, because before you know it Paul Constant and I will be hogging this thread in an exciting debate. Yap yap yap little doggie paulpaul.
10
Gary Oldman is my new hero. Anybody who gets uptight liberals in a tizzy is worth his weight in gold.
11
I think it's hilarious that Playboy's website wants you to pay to see nude photos. Apparently they're oblivious to the rest of the internet.
12
Why is it that Playboy makes everyone look like an asshole in their interviews?
Well, it's from 1975, but their Mel Brooks interview (plugging Young Frankenstein, and on the heels of Blazing Saddles) is absolutely delightful.

PS not a Playboy link, for those avoiding such.
13
@12

hey Warren, yay! off-topic. Let's talk Mel Brooks. I may have Young Frankenstein memorized. Still though, that orgasmic yell at the end, quite possibly all that was needed the entire flick. Fuck, can you imagine getting fucked by frankenstein? i might drip a little bit of cum.
14
My read of Oldman's comments (granted, I was distracted by the repetitive cracks of M's bats) was that he was calling out the outrage addicts in the media (see OP) on their hipocracy. A reasonable POV in my (admittedly, old/white/male) opinion.
15
Based on that interview, along with the many other interviews, panels, junkets and talk shows he's done in 30+ years of exceptional work, I'd say he's no worse than a sufferable prick.
16
@2

Oldman comes off as prick, in the "completely unselfaware" sense.
17
@2: Mel Gibson is a homophobic, anti-Semitic piece of slime. I've loathed him since I came out in the early 1980s.

But this isn't about Mel Gibson, then, is it? It's about Gary Oldman. He plays edgy characters because he is an edgy character. No surprise there. He's a man with an opinion, which is that we ought to cut each other a little slack. Now, I cut Mel Gibson no slack at all, because he's a homophobic, anti-Semitic piece of slime. I do cut Gary Oldman some slack, because he's not.

It's a first-hand vs. second-hand thing, for me.
18
@8 I'm not sure Mel Gibson used the n-word at the time of his arrest (I think that one was all the anti-Semitic stuff), but he definitely used the n-word in his lunatic phone call to his ex, wherein he so charmingly opined "I hope you get raped by a pack of [n-word]s." Truly, Gibson is a delightful and misunderstood individual; I can certainly see why Gary Oldman so vigorously wants to defend him, particularly, as Oldman reminds us "...in a town that’s run by Jews."

[SHORTER Gary Oldman: "Why can't we run around calling people "n----rs," "c--ts," "f-gs" and "f--king Jews" without people getting all uppity about it? It's simply not fair!!! I'm so oppressed! Why? Whhhhhhhyyyy????? Damn you, PC!!!! Damn you to hell!!!!' (shakes fists at sky)].

I think nursing is one the most admirable professions. But Cloris Leachman's bitchy spoof in Mel Brooks "High Anxiety" is funny haha. What do think WARREN TERRA AT #12????!!!!!!!
20
Playboy is still allowed to be sold?
Oh yes, just for the Interview.
I assume that they have stopped the "female pulchritude" stuff. (Seriously, that is how ol' Hugh would talk.)
21
@18

Oh, thanks. I didn't really follow the divorce/annulment or whatever it was, though I was vaguely aware of some weird stuff with ex-wives and mistresses, etc. So basically, he did the same sort of thing that the NBA owner did.
22
I can be nostalgiac for the first Star Wars movie: since it was downhill from there in the Star Wars universe.
23
I haven't learned anything from the comments regarding Oldman. Good to read though because it proved to me that the Playboy interview was much more entertaining.
24
This country sure is getting more and more pussiefied each year - and especially with the Millennials. I never witnessed so many people being butt-hurt(oops, the correct term is "offended") because of mere words.

You people need to grow a set of balls - I mean before you ask me my fellow taxpayers to pay for you to have them cut off because you handle actually being a MAN.

OH NOZ! somebody said a bad word! Lets crucify him, put his little shop out of business, and ruin his life! Cuz we didnt like what he said!

pussified sensibilities have now overcome free speech.

25
@2: If you found nothing out of sorts with his words in the interview you are simply terrible.
26
"female pulchritude"

What's wrong with talking about female beauty?
27
@25

and you need to grow a sack and stop being such a weak-willed pussy who get "offended" at every turn in life.

the only terrible people are ones like you who demand that everyone cower to you sensibilities.

go fuck off, and put you big boy pants on.
28
@26
Don't you just love the term "female pulchritude"?
It's really hilarious. Glad you enjoyed it.
I may start using the term but if I actually say it I'm afraid I'll start laughing.
"My dear, your pulchritude overwhelms me!"
or
"Your pulchritude could banish the clouds!"
29
This supposed 'goodwill' exists only in your mind Paul. Please get some perspective, read other voices on this.
31
Oldman is an old white man. Give one a podium and they'll say something wrong.

But he likes Krauthammer? That was too far.
33
Gary rules in that interview.
34
Paul Constant. Calling someone ELSE. An insufferable prick.

Lord, this place is a hoot and half sometimes.

Please wait...
