Removing a book from a required or suggested reading list isn't the same as censorship. It is a bit of an insult to authors who feel actual persecution to play the martyr when your book doesn't get a place on a reading list. It trivializes the meaning of banning a book.

I never get tired of saying that.

Also, Paul, you hackishly changed, "concerns that some parents might object to scenes involving sex and violence and the idea of questioning authority" to "it might inspire the students to question authority." Kind of propagandistic and authoritarian to feed your readers such as Fox News version of reality.

This should apply to Sherman Alexie too.

What @1 said. Exactly.

Cory Doctorow is awesome. Little Brother's a great book for teenagers, exactly because it does encourage questioning authority.

If they banned it for being a hackish bit of writing featuring mannequins for characters, I'd absolutely support this. But questioning authority? Kinda crucial.

No, I wasn't impressed by Doctorow's writing. Good message, awful writing.
