New York Alki

New York has among the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Although Article 2, Section 4, of the New York Civil Rights Law states: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed, the state constitution of New York has no provision that explicitly guarantees the right.[1] The state's courts have largely upheld New York's restrictive firearms laws based on a common view by state judges presiding over gun-related cases that the "keep and bear arms" provision in New York's civil rights statute refers to a collective right reserved for organized state militias, military units and law enforcement agencies, instead of an individual right guaranteed to the ordinary citizen.

You ran that man over, what's wrong with you?
You beat that man with a baseball bat, what's wrong with you?
You stabbed that dude, what's wrong with you?
You shot that guy, guns are the problem.

@delbert

Are you playing stupid or are you actually stupid? No one, and I do mean no one, thinks guns are the problem. There is, so far as I am aware, no movement to melt all guns down, destroy all the technical documents describing guns, scrap all the machines used in making guns, and force all gunsmiths into lunar exile.

No one thinks guns are the problem. Sane people think *easy access to guns* is a huge fucking problem. 10,000 deaths a year constitutes a problem. It shouldn't be easier to get a gun than it is to get a car, or healthcare, or (if you live in Georgia) a vibrator. In the hierarchy of things one needs to support the quest for life, liberty, and happiness, guns rank somewhere on the order of speedboats and boa constrictors: lots of fun, very occasionally useful, and dangerous as shit.

We wouod be a healthier, safer society if there were fewer people with guns. This is an undenoable empirical fact about the world, given that a gun in civilian hands is ten times (!) more likely to be used in an argument than in self defense.

But of course, the guns don't build and distribute themselves. Instead, idiots have partnered with apathetic corporations to proffer the ludicrous notion that in this, the most gun crazy country in the West, the answer to this monotonous phenmenon of massacres and homicides is... more guns.

The problem isn't isn't guns, delbert, and believe it or not, it's not psychos (they have those in Europe and Japan too). The problem is people like you.

"The Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) seminal study of preventable medical errors estimated as many as 98,000 people die every year at a cost of $29 billion.1 If the Centers for Disease Control were to include preventable medical errors as a category, these conclusions would make it the sixth leading cause of death in America."

10x worse, yet you whiners aren't bitching about bad doctors. Spare me your complaints.

@8

And yet there doesn't exist a multi-billion dollar lobby that blocks any and all medical reform at the political level- like the NRA. Hospitals don't lobby to sell more death and destruction as the solution to death and destruction.

To prevent bad doctors there doesn't exist an army of dipshits that is instantly mobilized after every malpractice death that storm the gates of the internet in denial of the problem. Like you.

Unless you include the Republican Party who block things like the ACA. And coincidentally you have the SAME forces that block both reasonable gun control AND improvements to healthcare.

In fact great effort on the consumer and federal level is made to prevent medical mistakes. That's how they are so accurately tracked. Unlike gun violence, the data of which is obscured and diluted by NRA lobbyists.

Check and Mate, dumbshit.

@9 You're attempting to take away my right to defend myself and my family over a minor, yet sensationalized, problem.

Mentally ill people, left untreated, are the problem.
Criminals are the problem.
Control freaks that blame tools for the actions of people are the problem.

Stop being the problem.

Please wait...
