Not to make light of the subject, but Slog has voiced many many times on the emotional subject of hipster beards. Was the bearded engineering student sporting a Built to Spill type of beard or a closer shave, say of Ralph Fiennes? It would give me a more detailed view of your detailed account Thanks.
And prayers, hugs, and condolences to those involved.
As to substance, while guns are AN issue, the Rodger murders were also about KNIVES. I've been interested how so few people mention that the 3 murders in Isla Vista were of men (his roommates) and in which knives were used.
To me, those murders were far more violent & scary than anything we have seen because they were so close up and personal.
So no, guns are not THE issue. Guns make it easier for people to be violent but we don't really know how much. A lot probably, but I doubt if it is all by any means.
Sarah70, I would guess there has been easily over 1000 slog posts more stupid than #5.
I'm kind of surprised to hear 3 of those deaths were men by knife. Paying attention to these mass shootings is often a blur to me. I thought all the victims were women by gunshot.
Meanwhile today someone was stabbed in the face in pioneer square. Minute by minute blogging was reserved for a guy with a gun though, in an incident where no one was injured.
And prayers, hugs, and condolences to those involved.
You say, "Not to make light of the subject..."
Then don't.
If you don't have anything constructive to add to this story (about a tragedy) then please just STFU.
Is "STFU" a good way to lower the overall level of social violence? Even when added with a "please"?
Like a lot of the rest of the world, Slog is a fairly nasty place. (That's why almost everyone is anonymous.)
@ Professor Hossler--Guns aren't the issue? GUNS AREN'T THE ISSUE?
Is that really necessary?
