Q certainly isn't my cup of tea, but I was unaware of the place being "aggressively non-gay". What non-gay / anti-gay actions have they taken? How are gays made to feel unwelcome there?

Why don't booksellers offer their best customers a personal shopper service that will make recommendations that are unique to the subscribed customer based on the individual customer's reading tastes and even alert them to upcoming publications and readings by their favorite authors? Amazon does a limited and crude self-serve version of this concept. Shouldn't a far more knowledgeable and much more personable bookseller be able both in person and through technology to do better?

Shouldn't it be possible to have a better and more personable interaction with a favorite author than standing in a cue for an hour or more only to experience a brief, expedited moment of resolution in a hurried autograph?

Individual author readings are wonderful, but wouldn't having a forum like SIFF - but for books - where multiple, new and independent authors and virtual unknowns could introduce their work and themselves to the audience and interact with them in generous question and answer sessions be even more of a fulfilling feast than the occasional desert of a single, well-established author's reading with no Q&A.

Booksellers would do well to enrich every aspect of the experience of books by engaging the mind and imaginations of the readers in ways that connect the experience of reading the book with the world of experiences it can and does create beyond its pages. Add depth and scope where it should have always been. Add connections where they naturally have always wanted to be.

Q isn't gay friendly? BS.

Paul, what do you think of Writer.ly?

This is Seattle

Every nightclub is a gay nightclub
8
@1, I love how Scientology is the intersection of all sets.

Incredibly douchy scene, I've never seen Q as bad as it is in that video. At any rate, demanding that every club on broadway meet some standard of gayness, or even maintain that standard of gayness having met it for some period of time seems a little much. Hate on the place for the right reason. Hating on any place for being gay or straight just isn't cool.
10
Q isn't homophobic so much as misanthropic. He doesn't like ANY humans. Except maybe Riker.
11
I think you mean women and street vandalism. Graffiti and tagging are property destruction unless commissioned by the property owner for a mural.
12
The Seattle Gay Scene is having a temper tantrum, and there's no need to give them a wider audience, especially here amung people who can spell.
13
I like how the Twitter feed up there is stuck on Terry in that little wrestling singlet. oh, WOW...
14
@10 Wasn't there some chick from Doogie Howser that he liked?

I'm old and jaded enough to suspect a hidden motive any time there is a public spat involving a gay bar owner. Usually it's a competitor who is trying to drum up business at the bar's expense, or perhaps a jilted lover out to even the score.
