In Vancouver on a rainy weekend? Dim-sum, of course. But it won't be rainy all weekend, so take the ferry directly to the North Vancouver market or hit up Granville Island.

Charles, that reminds me that it has been far too long since you've written a marxist philosophical Star Wars post.

I'm not kidding.

I answered this question, but your stupid fucking website ate it.

Ah, Return of the Jedi, 1985? That was the year I gave up on that light saber scene. Only been kitsch pre-teen fantasies since then. Enjoy, and perhaps you can wrangle a ticket from Paul Constant for the new Spider-Boy movie.

Getting married. For the fifth time. To the same person.

On March 3 2004 we were married during the brief window when Multnomah County OR allowed same-sex marriages. (The couple in line behind us had come down from Seattle, and they kindly permitted us to call our family to tell them to make tracks down to the county building.) We were so concerned a judge would stop the weddings at any minute that we hurriedly married in a parking garage across the street. A month later we observed a proper wedding with family and friends.

In the spring of 2005 the Oregon Supreme Court invalidated our marriage along with 3000 others. We were hurt, but a couple of months later in June we were remarried in Vancouver BC.

The State of Oregon didn't recognize our marriage. When Oregon enacted a DP law we got what we call our "Jim Crow marriage" in February 2009.

Now that Oregon's Amendment 36 has been struck down, we are taking back the harm that was inflicted on us when the Oregon SC invalidated our marriage. Today we will be remarried - by the same rabbi, in the same parking garage - accompanied by a few friends and family. We now have five consecutive monthsin which we have a marriage equality anniversary - Feb, Mar, Apr, May and June. (Bingo!)

When I was in Vancouver, what I did walk around Yaletown, see a hockey game, eat and joyride on Skytrain. Not much else.

That said, I enjoyed the seafood at Bluewater Cafe (which boasts 180 brands of malt whiskey) and the burgers at the Stackhouse.
