Suffice to say someone on the Stranger staff got a free drink or meal there at some point. Bethany's reviews are great. But there are a lot of Slog posts that seem based in a quid pro quo agreement.
@1 yes. i been there.. i may have written that review, but it would have been a long long time ago.i'll be the first to say that, as far as i know, NO stranger writer has received any free anything from a restaurant based on writing a favorable review. i never did. i'm certain that bethany hasn't. sun ya has served dependable decent dim sum for decades.they have a somewhat ratty cocktail lounge but, like most in the area, they can't make a decent mixed drink and the tv is a bit loud. i hope they clean up their act. i'll wager they'll reopen by the weekend.
Ew. I liked some of their dim sum dishes, they were a safe (as in taste) bet and cheap. I'm really not surprised, the place is pretty dirty right when you walk in the door and a stale musty smell.
I won't miss it. Seattle really isn't the place for Dim Sum anyway.
I haven't been there in at least a decade, but as a child in Seattle in the 80s Sun Ya was my family's default Dim Sum destination. Sorry to hear of this.

Imminent health hazard: food employee infected with a communicable disease that is transmissible through food
The bar is a real gem for people who don't need their drinking establishments to have themes or unicorn hats you can wear.
The parking lot's a great place to take a transient poop.
