Who's religion exactly? And what if they believe people should be killed with rocks?
3
Ever since biblical times, I've heard about this 'stoning to death'. Peabrain, any suggestions other than youtube keyword search 'killed with rocks'?
4
@2 Yeah, Christian Scientists come to mind.

"Sorry, this is a Christian Scientist owned business, so we don't offer health care of any kind. We'll pray for you to recover from your cancer though."
5
My religion requires me to be drunk, stoned, and nude in public.

Amen hallelujah.

I was going to say "render unto Caesar" but apparently the christian anarchists actually already hijacked that one

Co equal to the right to life??? So in a competition between my right to life and your religious beliefs, we're tied? Presumably then if someone else had a religious belief the same as yours, my life would be forfeit?

I sometimes wonder if Nebraska and some other Plains states aren't the flip side of the "urban archipelago" ideaβ€”in other words, places where the most extreme religious types end up concentrated in the larger cities.

During the time I spent in rural Nebraska last year, I was so struck by the middle-of-the-road, pragmatic approach exemplified by small-town newspaper editorials on issues like the environment, agriculture, and healthcare that I clipped some of them out to save. Don't have them handy and don't wish to transcribe them, so you'll have to take my word. Yes, they're more religious than most of us are used to and you'll see plenty of cross-stitched Bible verses even on the walls of the (very good) local espresso-and-wrap emporium, but it's much more Northern homespun Lutheranism than Southern fire-and-brimstone fundamentalism. The small towns seem quite tolerant of their fringe characters and gays. And the state is blanketed by public-radio stations carrying, in addition to the news programs out of Washington, many hours per day of interesting original programming syndicated out of Lincoln.

Unfortunately, there are plenty who are willing to sacrifice our nation's founding principals for their own short term gain. If the right to discriminate can really be considered a gain.

@8: My experience in Nebraska is limited to driving across it over the course of a couple days. In that time, almost everything on the radio was either high school football or fire and brimstone religious shows. I stopped at a motel in a small town and in the office was a picture of the planes hitting the World Trade Center on 9/11 with verses of Revelation quoted.

What I'm saying is that you may be right, but I sure as hell won't be going back to find out.

@5 Your ideas are intriguing, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter ...

@5:

We must belong to different congregations - because, I don't think I've seen you at any of the services I attend. But, I'm usually pissed-blind, so maybe you've been there all along.

This extremist Xtians are so funny! And by funny I mean "uncritical solipsists". If they just thought through their statements with respect to religions that they DON'T like, as opposed to their own damn selves, they might give themselves pause.

But no! They merrily skip through the "thinking" part, and pretend that everyone should be just like them, and that their personal brand of Xtianity is the only religion around! La-de-daaa! Oh how fun that must be!

I hope he doesn't mind that my religion requires me to shit on his desk.
15
@12, oh, I've attended services with Urgutha, and I can assure you that he's a member in good standing.

If you don't want to prescribe contraceptives, GREAT! Don't be a pharmacist! Don't like abortions? Don't have one!
17
Is he the nations dumbest senator? There is so much competition.

I was back home in the Omaha television market for a week the week before last, and will be returning there shortly. You would not believe the amount of just plain moronic political ads they have on television there. The politicians run footage of Sarah Palin endorsing them. It's crazy.
19
THIS COULD WORK OUT GREAT! My religion says that I am required by god to grow a pot farm in my backyard. And who is the govt to impede me from practicing my religious beliefs?

20
@18 Who in their right mind would want an endorsement from sarah palin? Oh, I forgot, they are probably republican. The party most likely to lose because of stupidity.

Please wait...
