So...in Europe this is how they get people to vote, and their pop stars have orgasms while singing. And there's paid sick leave written into law. Why do I still live in the "greatest nation on Earth?"
Very weird: narrated and with end credits and funny comments (no hipsters were harmed?) in ENGLISH with (I assume) Danish subtitles and Voteman speaking in (I assume) Danish. It may not be effective, but it sure is FUN!
Stuff like this amazes me... that spot had to get through *how many* layers of decision makers before it was aired? From original concept, to final product... and they all... *all* of them thought it would be fine. o_O H'amazing...
That said, I *did* appreciate watching it, very ridiculous/funny.
I'm actually kinda disappointed to hear that it got pulled. I'm in awe that they produced this in the first place. At least it got people talking about voting.
Yeah, the cinnamon thing is real. From a report 6 months ago:
"The popular Danish pastry, kanelsnegle, also known as cinnamon swirl, could soon be banned from the shelves of bakeries across the country.
According to NPR, a recent test, conducted by the Danish government found that the kanelsnegle might be too unhealthy for people to consume. Telegraph.com reported that the amount of cinnamon used in a cinnamon roll surpasses the recommended amount set by the European Union. The amount of cinnamon used in a treat is limited to 15 mg per kilo"
If i owned a TV station, I'd have a sliding scale for ads. The less repetitive and more interesting - the more super-bowl-ad-esque they were - the LESS I'd charge. The more boring and oft-repeated the ad buy, the more I'd charge. I'd want to be the station where you didn't leave during the commercial breaks, like during the Super Bowl.
Effective or not, offensive or not, this Danish voting ad meets those criteria in spades. People would be left thinking, "WTF?!?" and want to watch it again to make sure they saw what they thought they saw the first time.
The Daily Dot write-up is ambiguous and confusing. It makes it sound like the decapitation, beating, and interruption are all inflicted upon the humping couple, rather than the first two being delivered to others.
Please wait...
and remember to be decent to everyone all of the time.
And he rides dolphins? Seriously?
It was pretty funny.

But maybe not as an effective ad campaign.
It's like the people who made this got really stoned or ate some shrooms first.
If the candidates were one tenth as interesting, our troubles with voter turnout would be over very quickly.

And the story about it being pulled:

Can I just say that I found the use of the word "blowjobs" in a major mainstream national newspaper to be, um... mindblowingly refreshing.
