I'm sure it will be an entirely functional movie. But I'd be genuinely interested in a "reboot" of the original. I wonder if Disney would ever dare such a thing.

Really? Whatever for? I understand remaking classic stories in a different setting or time period, or updating to reflect the times, but I don't understand what would motivate someone to wish for a 'reboot' of Star Wars.
Because we've not been tortured enough with the prequels, and need to watch the man who BLEW UP VULCAN blows up "a galaxy far away". Clearly!
Yes, I am bitter.
@5 as much as I hate what JJ did to Star Trek, if you take a step back and look at that film you will realize all he did was take the main plot points of A New Hope and overlay Star Trek on top of it. So logically (heh) he is pretty much the perfect director for a new Star Wars film.
A New Hope with Luke reimagined as a drunked ne'er-do-well, not sure I buy it.
In any event, Abrams actually *likes* Star Wars and has respect for its premise. At a minimum, he won't be shitting all over it. If he could stop using Lindelof's non-existing talents, that would be even better.
